Children and young people are growing up in digital spaces, which shape how they learn, connect, and express themselves.
While technology creates opportunities in education, it also poses risks of online and technology-facilitated violence. This violence may include cyberbullying, hate speech, online sexual exploitation and AI-enabled abuse, and have wide-reaching impacts on learners’ safety, mental health, and inclusion in schools. Education systems are at the frontline of addressing this growing global challenge.
UNESCO, together with Safe Online, Plan International and UNGEI, is launching a three-part learning webinar series to explore how education can contribute to holistic, cross-sectoral responses to address online and technology-facilitated violence. The series will culminate in a global symposium in November 2025, linked to the International Day against violence and bullying at school including cyberbullying.
This first webinar, co-convened by UNESCO and Safe Online, will explore the current landscape of online and technology-facilitated violence, why it matters for education, and how it affects learners, educators, and policy-makers. It will feature expert perspectives, practitioners’ insights, youth voices, via interactive discussions. A second webinar will focus on what the education sector can do to prevent and respond to online violence, and a third webinar will take a deep dive into technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).
The webinar will offer a space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collective reflection, while contributing to a cumulative process of advancing evidence-based, rights-centered, and education-led solutions to online violence globally.
